October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Nearly everyone in your community has likely been touched by breast cancer in some way – whether personally or through the experience of a family member, friend, or co-worker. Among women, breast cancer continues to be the most frequently diagnosed cancer other than skin cancer. Breast cancer is also the second leading cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer). Despite these statistics, only about half of women aged 40 and older report having a mammogram – a screening test the American Cancer Society recommends to find breast cancer early, when it is most treatable – within the past year. Additionally, studies have shown that physical inactivity and weight gain are associated with breast cancer risk, meaning people who are physically active and maintain a healthy weight are less likely to get breast cancer.

Spitzer, Industries wants to encourage awareness. We wear our pink shirts on Wednesdays for the month of October.

We are happy to announce that Spitzer, Industries participated in the seventh annual Hess Houston Corporate Run 5K held on Tuesday, October 17th at Memorial Park! We joined hundreds of companies across the region for this corporate health and wellness initiative.

Spitzer Industries was honored to be a sponsor of the Heroes at Home Charity Golf Tournament, hosted and funded by The McKee Family Foundation at the Woodlands Country Club. The tournament was played to help raise funds to assist the mission of The Green Beret Foundation.  All of the net proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit the Foundation’s mission to connect U. S. Army Special Forces and their families with the resources needed for healing from injury, family support, and transition to life after service.

The Green Beret Foundation serves these soldiers and their families, who bravely serve the American people.

Spitzer Industries was proud to sponsor and participate in the HDI Golf Tournament again this year at the Cinco Ranch Golf Club. This charitable event was presented by the Houston Dow Institute, helping to promote higher education by providing scholarships to qualified candidates enrolled in recognized degree programs at accredited colleges and universities. HDI has been awarding scholarships for over 53 years.

Special thanks to organizers and all participants for making such a huge impact on so many people in our community. It was great getting to talk to everyone yesterday and we are looking forward to the next tournament!

Spitzer Industries, Inc. is honored to be a part of Sky High for Kids as a family member sponsor! The mission of Sky High is to bring communities together to provide comfort, fund research and save lives of those fighting pediatric cancer and other life-threatening conditions.

In addition to the monetary donations Sky High for Kids makes, Sky High also provides a variety of programs to further benefit pediatric cancer families. Their programs include Tie For Sky High, Pop Tabs, Ponytail Donations and Sky High Adventures.

Spitzer Industries had the opportunity to attend the Universal Technical Institute Houston Career Fair. It was an inspiring experience to see all of the new, talented students getting ready to join the workforce. Spitzer invests in our communities by partnering with schools that have welding programs to bridge the gap of assisting graduates with employment opportunities.

Hauling oversized cargo sometimes requires some unusual solutions. In this instance, Barnhart was hired to transport nine components, one of which was a 200’ long column vessel, from Spitzer Industries, Inc. to a fracking unit at a refinery in Texas. The journey of this vessel was featured in Waterways Journal.
